Why I Choose a Private Pay Model for Advanced Trauma & EMDR Care
To provide you with the deepest level of trauma-informed care, my practice operates exclusively as a private pay (out-of-network) provider. While I do not bill health insurance companies directly, I choose this path because it directly benefits the safety, speed, and privacy of your healing:
-
Total Privacy & Confidentiality:
Insurance companies require a permanent mental health diagnosis to authorize coverage. This diagnosis remains on your health record indefinitely. Private pay ensures that your treatment history and goals remain strictly between us.
-
Customized Session Lengths (EMDR Intensives):
Standard insurance models cap therapy sessions at a rigid 45 to 50 minutes. Processing deep trauma through EMDR requires space. Operating outside of insurance allows us to construct 90-minute blocks or multi-day EMDR Intensives, preventing us from having to stop mid-process when a timer runs out.
-
No Arbitrary Treatment Caps:
Your timeline is dictated entirely by your unique clinical needs and personal progress, not by a corporate policy checker or capped session allowances.
Utilizing Your Out-of-Network Benefits
Many premium PPO insurance plans reimburse between 40% and 80% of out-of-network mental health care. At the end of each month or intensive block, I will provide you with a detailed receipt called a Superbill. You can submit this document directly to your insurer to seek direct reimbursement back into your bank account.
I also welcome Health Savings Account (HSA) and Flexible Spending Account (FSA) debit cards, allowing you to pay for your specialized care using pre-tax dollars.

3. Concierge tiers
| Tier | What is included | Monthly fee |
|---|---|---|
| Essential | 4 × 90-minute sessions (1 session per week); priority scheduling; secure messaging; 1 brief 15-minute check-in (Not Crisis or Emergency Services) | $1,250 |
| Concierge | 8 × 90-minute sessions (2 weekly sessions); priority scheduling; secure messaging; 2 brief 15-minute check-ins (Not Crisis or Emergency Services); enhanced availability | $2,250 |
| Executive Concierge | 12 × 90-minute sessions (3 weekly sessions); priority scheduling; secure messaging; 4 brief 15-minute check-ins (Not Crisis or Emergency Services); highest-priority scheduling | $3,250 |
6. Why $2,500 for 8 sessions makes sense
At a regular 90-minute rate of $300, eight sessions equal $2,400. The additional $100 effectively supports the enhanced-access component. This makes the package easy to explain and prevents the concierge service from becoming a large discount for a very high amount of clinician time.
4. Access boundaries
• Use secure messaging rather than promising an unrestricted personal/direct line.
• You can aim to respond within about 3 hours during business hours, but do not create an expectation of 24/7 availability.
• Brief 15-minute check-ins should have a defined monthly limit.
• State clearly that messaging and concierge access are not crisis or emergency services. • Define what happens when a client cancels, reschedules, or does not use all included sessions.
5. Positioning / wording
Consider calling it Concierge Therapy Membership or Private Concierge Therapy rather than simply a '$2,500 retainer.' The client should understand that the monthly fee purchases a defined package of therapy and enhanced access—not unlimited availability.
7. Before launching
• Have the final membership structure and agreement reviewed for Florida legal/clinical compliance.
• Clearly define fees, included services, communication boundaries, cancellations, unused sessions, termination, and emergencies.
• Decide whether the membership is recurring monthly and whether unused sessions expire or roll over. • Keep documentation and clinical boundaries the same as with other psychotherapy services.
Simple Recommendation to Remember
$2,500 = 8 × 90-minute sessions + defined concierge access.
$3,500 = 12 × 90-minute sessions + higher-touch concierge access.
